How I decided to be a therapist
My decision to become a speech therapist was deeply influenced by my own family experience. During that time, I witnessed how much dedication, patience, and encouragement are needed for meaningful progress in communication.
This motivation led me to pursue advanced training not only as a speech-language pathologist but also as an audiologist. With this dual background, I came to understand that speech therapy is about helping people overcome the barriers created by communication difficulties and opening the door to communication, confidence, and community.
What began as a personal motivation has grown into a professional calling. I am dedicated to using my experience and training to support others on their communication journey.
How I would like to help clients as a therapist
My support for clients centers on developing expressive and receptive language skills. For nonverbal children or those who use only a few words, I focus on their first steps toward spoken communication. For children with autism, my interventions are designed to foster meaningful and functional expression. I also teach effective strategies for stuttering management, helping children build confidence in their fluency.
Drawing on my background in audiology, I am equipped to provide auditory rehabilitation, intervention for Auditory Processing Disorders (APD), and listening-based strategies to enhance communication. When appropriate, I guide families in utilizing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, ensuring every child has a reliable method to connect with others.
Most importantly, I view parents as partners in therapy and work to create progress that extends beyond the therapy room.
What my theoretical orientation is as a therapist
My therapeutic orientation is grounded in evidence-based practice (EBP), ensuring that every intervention is informed by the latest research and tailored to each client’s unique needs. I use dynamic assessment to identify communication strengths and challenges, guiding meaningful and targeted progress. I also place strong emphasis on early intervention and family-centered practice, recognizing that timely support and active family involvement are essential for achieving lasting change.
